back on track!

Well, we've got our new computer, and now I can blog whenever I want! And, I can start putting pictures with our posts again! We are very excited!

SPRING IS COMING!

Today I re-decorated the bulletin board in the library for Spring. I also went through the whole collection of books and pulled out any that had to do with spring; I put lots of them on display and designated 2 shelves to hold the rest: birds, flowers, seeds, eggs, baby animals. etc.; we have alot of books about Spring, and it is making the library and my mood fresh and renewed. I also checked out a huge pile to myself; we are going to have a quiet weekend at home full of movie watching and reading. I could almost say it is even putting me in the mood for spring cleaning; almost, but not quite. HAPPY SPRING!

quick post

I didn't mean to have my last post last so long, but we have the week off from school (president's week) and so I haven't been around a computer. I'll have to make this post short because the library computer that I'm working on is going to cut me off in 7 minutes! Anyway, our week off of school has been fun. Nothing major; just a few slumber parties, cleaning the basement, etc. But, best of all, celebrating Reggie's 45th birthday! Happy birthday to the man in our lives. We love you Reggie! Here's to another 45 years!

too good to last?

In these economic times, the mood in the air seems to have shifted from "trying to get ahead" to "trying to keep what you've got". The California budget crisis has obviously hit the schools hard, so our district is talking about major cuts, including all the librarian positions. If that happens, I will obviously be very sad, because this job and I are a perfect fit. The hours, the work, the children; I love everything about it. And as a parent, I am even more worried about the other things they are proposing: larger class sizes, less campus supervision, etc. So I went to a school board meeting open to the public, at city hall. It was very interesting to observe. So many parents and educators spoke against the cuts, and talked about how important these things are to the children (including my job, which made me feel good). It was also obvious that the school board does not want to make any cuts either. But they have heard from the state that they are getting much less money, and that they have to come up with a plan on what cuts will be made. So it is not an easy situation for anyone. And if my job has to go, I know we will be fine and be able to figure something else out. But right now, as the children smile at me when I am checking out the books, talk to me about how cool the books and pictures are, and invite me to their Valentine parties in their classes, I have decided to not worry too much and just enjoy what I've got right now.

Its going to be one of those days

This morning I was using my cell phone, on hold with Luke's doctor; I had already left the house for school/work, etc. All of a sudden I thought that i heard my cell phone vibrating. I thought I better find it and put it in my pocket, so that if the doctor called back, I would be able to answer it right away. Then I started panicing, frantically looking for the phone, fearing that I had left it at home, or lost it. Then I remembered that I was holding it up to my ear, and that I was still on hold. Yes, I guess its going to be one of those days

They like us, they really like us!

So after living here for about 3 months, my nephews Tzuri (2 1/2) and Evani (9 mos.) have decided that they like us. They come over with their Mom about two or three times a week. At first Tzuri was spending much of his time in the corner for "time out" because he would hit us, throw toys at us, etc. One day, I admit, Reggie and I were ganging up on Tzuri. He was eating a bowl of cereal. Reggie was tickling him from the back while I was snitching his cereal from the front. He showed us. He threw the contents of the cereal across the table at me and the empty bowl at Reggie behind him. He has really good aim. But now he smiles at us, sits with us, climbs all over us, etc. I have had the fun task of dropping him off in nursery the past few Sundays. It was flattering that he didn't want me to leave, and I had to sneak out. Evani was always okay with us holding him, but only if his mother was in the room. Now he lets us babysit him and his Mom has been able to have a couple of hours to run errands without the kids. When I went to their apartment the other day to babysit them. Evani smiled and crawled right over to me. So even though I am getting used to having crackers in my hair again, and little smears on my clothes, it is all worth it. We feel very inspired that all of our own children are here on earth; no one got left out of our family. So I am content to not be having any more babies, but it is fun having little ones around the house again.

Well, our poor computer will not be coming out of it's coma; it has been declared officially dead. No chance of resesitation (spelled right?). So, again, the blogging will happen whenever we are around an available computer.

WICKED!

Last night Samantha and I celebrated our birthdays (November and December) by seeing the play WICKED at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. We had a great time. Our seats were in the top balcony, but in the very middle of the first row. We had an amazing view: high up, front and center. There were a few times that I looked over at Samantha during the play and she was just beaming. We also had a great intermission. We walked around; went to see where the rich people sit; passed by the $3 candy bars, etc. But we decided that our seats were the best in the house, and we enjoyed the mini Reeses peanut butter cups from Target that fit perfectly in my purse. The whole night will be a great memory for us for years to come. (I'm sure that when Samantha gets access to a computer she will give you many more details on her blog.)

back to the future

This week Luke had to make a time machine for a school project. So in preparation for this we watched the "Back To The Future" triology together. This was a little bit difficult because there is so much swearing in these movies, so we did our best to mute out the words that we could tell were coming. Also, we skipped over a little bit of the first movie and most of the second movie because of it's mature content. But, the rest of it, Luke loved! It really inspired him in making his own time machine, and he and Reggie had alot of fun doing it together. They even tried to make the "flux capacitor" from the movie. My contribution was helping Luke find historical pictures to glue to the outside of the box. (I of course encouraged him to put pictures of the Utah pioneers on.) But one thing about these movies really made us laugh. The first movie was made and set in 1985. The second movie is set "30 years later", or in the year 2015. Now according to this movie, in the year 2015 (6 years from now) we will no longer be driving cars on the street. All cars will fly; all traffic will be in the air, but we will have parking spots in front of our houses for when we land. There will no longer be keys or doorknobs. To open a door, you will just scan your fingerprint on the little pad next to it and it will open. Everyone will be wearing metallic, bright colored jump suits. It was pretty funny to see Spielberg's imagination. I guess he didn't envision cell phones, reality t.v. and the internet. I wonder what 2045 will look like, compared to our current imagination.

computer down

So our computer is down; we're not sure if it is dead, or just in a coma. We are waiting to see. Until we figure things out, we will have to fit our blogging in wherever we can find a computer, and time to use it (public library, etc.). Thats life!
