favorites for the season

 Some of my favorite children's books for this time of year are:

THE WIDOW'S BROOM - a lesser known book from the author and illustrator of the Polar Express and Jumanji. I remember reading this to the elementary school children when I was a librarian, and Mariah and I were reminiscing on what a fun story it is.

THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH - a classic I just discovered as the 6th graders in my school have been assigned to read and write an essay about it. Sounds like a fun and important story and I'm excited to listen to the audiobook during my daily commute.

TOO MANY PUMPKINS - nice story about keeping an open mind, sharing with others, but most of all about baking! This book just makes me excited about autumn and all the baking traditions. It's a book my kids grew up on and I've made sure they each have a copy for their own kids.

Tomorrow's Old Testament lesson that I am teaching to the teenagers is about the Creation. There is one quote in the manual by our last church president, Gordon B. Hinckley, that I want to share. I just love it.

"When the process of creation occurred, Jehovah, the Creator, under instruction from His Father, first divided the light from the darkness, and then separated the land from the waters. There followed the creation of plant life, followed by the creation of animal life. Then came the creation of man, AND CULMINATING THAT ACT OF DIVINITY CAME THE CROWNING ACT, THE CREATION OF WOMAN."
